How each entry is built
- 1Every fridge and freezer time starts from a government food-safety chart, not from a blog or a manufacturer's marketing claim.
- 2Where two authorities differ, we publish the more conservative figure and describe the range in the food's notes.
- 3Fridge times assume 4°C (40°F) or below; freezer times assume −18°C (0°F). Frozen food stays safe indefinitely — our freezer numbers are quality windows.
- 4Spoilage signs come from sensory-quality guidance and are written for what a person can actually see, smell or feel. We never tell anyone to taste-test.
- 5Reader submissions are reviewed by a person against these same sources before anything is published.
- 6Entries are re-checked when a source updates its chart.
