Milk

Fridge (4°C / 40°F)

5–7 days past the printed date

Freezer (−18°C / 0°F)

3 months

Worth knowing

The date on milk is a quality date, not a safety cut-off. Smell it — that's the real test.

Store it right

  • Store on a middle shelf, not the door — the door swings warm every time you open it.
  • Freezing works but the texture separates; shake well after thawing and use for cooking.

Signs it has gone off

  • Sour smell.
  • Lumps or a thickened, clinging texture.
  • Yellowing color.

Never taste food to test it — a small bite is enough to make you ill.
